Switch Emulator Announced 10 Months After The Console First Sales

An experimental emulator for the Nintendo Switch is now in development. It’s a project by one of the original authors of the popular Citra 3DS emulator bunnei that has started from spring 2017. The emulator is planned to be available for Windows, Linux, and macOS.

Yuzu was developed as a fork of Citra due to the similarities between Switch and 3DS. It uses the same project architecture, and both emulators benefit from shared improvements. Now the real question is can you play some games with it? According to them the emulator can’t play any games at the moment. Its main use now is for homebrew development and research purposes.

Also don’t expect this emulator to play any commercial games soon. Looking back at the Citra 3DS Emulator, it took them around three years before it could run any games. They said that switch emulation is very complex, also running games will be one of the their top priorities.

Not much more to go on for now. I am excited to see the development of this emulator. Imagine playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on 4K resolution and 60FPS, that will be a fantastic experience.
